House of Representatives Commits to Enhancing Transparency and Public Engagement

In a move to bolster transparency and engagement with the public, the House of Representatives has affirmed its dedication. This commitment seeks to alleviate suspicion, cultivate trust, and garner support for legislative initiatives.

Speaker Abbas articulated this commitment during the kickoff of a one-day capacity-building retreat for the chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of House committees in Abuja on Monday.

Recognized as the powerhouse of a democratic government, the legislature acknowledges committee chairpersons and deputies as pivotal elements essential to sustaining its operations.

The focal point of this retreat, themed “Improving Legislative Performance through Effective Committee Management,” is to establish explicit expectations for how committees conduct their affairs and how members actively participate.

Stakeholders, including Yahaya Danzaria, Clerk of the House of Representatives, and Samson Itodo, Executive Director of YIAGA, underscored the imperative for synergy and effective citizen engagement in their expressions of goodwill.
